GETTING TO ST. JOHN AND TO ISLAND BREEZE
FROM THE CYRIL KING AIRPORT ON ST. THOMAS

The St. Thomas airport is located toward the western end of St. Thomas. You will likely arrive by air — unless you chose to swim, which we wouldn’t recommend! After landing, you must go to the town of Red Hook on the eastern side of St. Thomas to catch a ferry to St. John. You have two choices on how to get there:

A. Take a taxi/van from the airport to Red Hook and take the “people ferry,” then rent a car on St. John; or
B. Rent a car on St. Thomas at the airport, drive to Red Hook, and take the car/truck ferry — known as the “barge.”

Here are more details about each of these options:

A. RENT A CAR ON ST. JOHN

Take a taxi from the airport to Red Hook to catch the “people” ferry to St. John.

Taxis and vans are located immediately outside the baggage area at the airport. Just say “Red Hook.” There is a charge for each person riding in the van and an additional charge for each piece of luggage. The taxi ride takes up to 45 minutes, depending on traffic. If you ask the airport dispatcher, they may be able to arrange a private taxi.

People ferries leave from Red Hook for St. John on the hour until midnight. The ferry costs about $8 per person plus $4 for each piece of luggage. The ride lasts 20–25 minutes and you disembark at the ferry dock in Cruz Bay. For more passenger ferry information, visit:

B. RENT A CAR ON ST. THOMAS

Drive to Red Hook and board the barge. The barge runs approximately every 30 minutes, and the trip takes about 40–45 minutes.

The cost of the barge trip is approximately $35 one way or $55 round trip. Payment is made in cash on the barge after loading, and advance reservations for a specific barge time are not available.

The barge arrival point on St. John is at Enighed Pond. Arrange with your St. John Signature Villas greeter where to meet upon arrival.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Do you need a car with four-wheel drive?
Almost all rental cars on St. John come with four-wheel drive, but it is not necessary to get to the villa.

Do they really drive on the left side of the road?
Yes! STAY LEFT is not a joke. If you have not driven on the left before, take it slow and give yourself time to adjust. Turns can feel challenging at first, but you will quickly get used to it.

What are the directions to Island Breeze from the ferry dock?

Your greeter from our management company will meet you at the ferry, help get your rental car, and escort you to the house. (There is no extra fee for this service.) The drive is about 7½ miles from Cruz Bay and takes 25 minutes.

You will take Centerline Road (which does not have much of a centerline, so stay left). Near Coral Bay, turn left onto Cedar Lane just past the “Hidden Driveway” sign and 7 mailboxes. Island Breeze is the 4th house on the right (do NOT go left up the hill). You will go straight into the driveway, enter the provided code on the keypad to open the villa gate.

Your greeter will supply the gate access code and show you Island Breeze and give you the details for WIFI, etc. and answer any questions that you may have. Island Breeze is only a mile from Coral Bay restaurants, shops, and grocery stores. FYI… for your reference, there is a map of St. John in the next section.

How long does it take to get back from Island Breeze to the airport for my return trip?
Ferries return to Red Hook from St. John using the reverse route. Passenger ferries leave from the ferry dock in Cruz Bay on the hour, and car barges leave from Enighed Pond on the half hour, with the last barge departing at 7:00 PM.

We recommend leaving the villa 4–5 hours before your flight time. You should arrive at the airport at least two full hours before departure, as Customs can be crowded. Check-out time from the villa is 10:00 AM.

What are the directions to Island Breeze?
Island Breeze is located in Lower Carolina on Cedar Lane. Enjoy easy access off Centerline Road on a paved road. It is in a small private neighborhood of 7 houses. Island Breeze is the 4th house on the right (do NOT go left up the hill). The Island Breeze sign is on the left of the gate. It is about 7½ miles from Cruz Bay and only a mile to Coral Bay restaurants and shops.
